Common Fitting Problems, Advice & Tips

If you would like a personal fitting consultation please contact us. The problems below are ones we've all encountered, as a trained bra fitter I can offer the following possible solutions!

The fit of underwear is highly important; it is thought that 70% of ladies are wearing the wrong sized bra. The correct size not only gives the right support to the breast, it will give you better posture and can even give the illusion of loosing 5lb. Technology within manufacture of lingerie is improving, giving us better fit and support.

It is important to replace your bras; we recommend that they lead a useful and supportive life of 9-12 months. To maximise their life make sure when you purchase it you are using the last hook and eye fastening (then you can tighten it as the band stretches). We also recommend that you hand wash all our lingerie.

Points of a well fitting bra:
  • Comfortable and supportive strap
  • No puckering of material or overspill in the cup
  • Well supported giving good shape under clothing
  • Band sits firmly round the body and is level at the front and back (if you are wearing a correctly fitting bra for the first time this may feel quite tight)
  • Underwires sit flat, clear the breast tissue at the side and separate the breasts
  • Breasts are fully contained in the underwire

A guide in measuring your band size:

Measure in cm as tight as you can (this is important) directly under the bust root. Next use your measurement to find the band size you require (use the table below). You may find that your measurement is different in inches to the band size recommended; this is because the band of a bra stretches and a smaller band size will offer the best fit and support for you.

Your cm measurement 58-62 63-67 68-72 73-77 78-82 83-87 88-92
Band size equivalent (inches) 28 30 32 34 36 38 40

Common Problems:
'My back strap rides up'

Your band size is too big, reduce the strap size. Remember to get a larger cup size to ensure the same fit.

'My shoulder straps fall off'

This often happens at the same time the back strap rides up, again decrease band size and increase cup size.

'I have overspill and look like I've got four boobs!'

It is likely the cup size is too small, try a bigger size.

'I fall out'

It could be that your cup sizes are too small. Also make sure that your bra is suitable for the job. For example a plunge bra is not suitable for bending over doing the gardening!

'My underwire is standing away' or 'my underwire is digging into the breast tissue'

Again it is likely that your cup size is too small.

'My shoulder straps dig in'

They are too tight! They are there to support the bra. If you are using them to pull the breasts up it is likely that you need a smaller back size; make sure the band lays in the correct place on your back and is level all the way round.

'I have different sized breasts'

Fit your bra to the largest one (in order that it is fully supported) and fill in the other side with 'chicken fillets'!

All advice given is given in good faith, we cannot promise that it will ensure a perfect fit for every customer.
